On & Off Campus Options:
In conjunction with the above courses we offer on and off campus, we also facilitate transition programs such as the School Based Apprentice and Traineeship Program. This is an excellent platform for students to gain valuable skills and to assist students in transitioning to full time employment in an ever-changing work environment.
This School Based Apprentice and Traineeship Program allows students to participate in employment one day a week while gaining a nationally recognised qualification, typically Certificate II or III. These are available in a wide range of vocations; the only limiting factor is initially gaining employment in a field that students wish to pursue.
Students Are Supported.
Identifying potential career choices for a young person can be an overwhelming task. Through our Work Experience Program students are able to make informed decisions regarding their career choices. They can experience a variety of vocations which would not necessarily be available to them once they have left school. We encourage all students to define what career they wish to pursue and to participate in a structured work experience placement while they are attending school.
The Work Experience Program has many benefits for the participants including developing an appreciation of transferable skills achieved through hard work and commitment in all facets of their life. Also, students can pinpoint a potential employer that may support them as a school-based apprentice or trainee and hence assist in a smooth transition from school to work.
Anticipated future human resource demands for our work forces are going to be focusing on experience and soft skills as the tools for tomorrow. Businesses now are asking recruiters to ascertain the candidates’ ability to work with others rather than qualifications. Some examples of this include architectural firms expressing they are happy to teach knowledge gaps but unless that person can work cohesively with the team then they are wasting valuable time and resources. Work experience during students’ formative years is the ideal opportunity to experience workplace dynamics and develop the skills to sustain gainful employment.
Other programs such as TAFE and University programs provide an excellent framework in developing the required industry skills and knowledge to assist students’ progression to employment post school studies.
West Moreton Anglican College in conjunction with Universities and surrounding TAFE institutions allow students in Years 11 or 12 the opportunity to enrol in courses during their Senior years ranging from Certificate courses to Diploma level courses. Upon completion of Year 12 these courses allow the students to transition to either employment or continue their vocational studies. Through the Vocational Education and Training that WestMAC offers, students are experiencing a substantial kick start to their career.
